What is the Long Term Energy Schedule (PPE)?

Introduced in 2015 by the law pursuant to the Energy Transition Act for Green Growth (LTECV), the PPE is one of the tools used  to manage the French energy policy.

Every 5 years, it sets out the priority actions and guidelines of the public authorities regarding the management of all forms of energy in metropolitan France, in order to reach the targets of the energy policy.

It incorporates aspects pertaining to supply security,  energy efficiency, the development of renewable and recovered energies, grids, energy storage, development of clean mobility, purchasing power of consumers, skills and the competitiveness of energy prices.

The Long Term Energy Schedule includes an economic and social impact study, as well as a strategic environmental assessment. It also defines the maximum indicative budget for the government’s public resources and its public establishments mobilised to reach the quantitative objectives of the schedule.

The next five-year revision of the schedule will be preceded, for the first time, by the adoption of an energy and climate schedule law that will lay down the priority actions of the national energy and climate policy. The Long Term Energy Schedule, as with the national low-carbon strategy, will be updated annually to implement the guidelines of this law, within one year of its adoption, i.e. before July 1, 2024.
